San Diego Harbor Photoshoot with Venezia Photography

It’s been a while since I’ve done a photoshoot of my S4, but my friend David Venezia of Venezia Photography (Facebook here) was in town for a day and we decided to go driving around San Diego looking for a decent spot to take some photos and low and behold we stumbled upon a jackpot.

This parking spot was located along Harbor Drive near the Airport and had a great backdrop of the downtown San Diego skyline, Coronado, and everyone out enjoying their boats on a fine Sunday afternoon. It’s on what is a giant peninsula that many San Diegans have seen before, and it makes a great spot to get photos as long as you can snag a good spot. There isn’t much parking and there can be a decent amount of traffic, so it can be hit or miss on getting photos especially if you don’t time it right.

We had to wait for the spot to open up a little bit, but actually managed to get pretty lucky in that regard too as we noticed someone about to pull out when we got there. I quickly pulled into the spot while David got his camera and lenses setup and did a few test shots to get the white balance and focal settings dialed in.

As you can see based on my pictures, I’m rocking my 19″ BBS CH Black Editions again – they’re still for sale, but I figured that I might as well use up some of the tires and enjoy one last “hurrah” on them before they go to a new home. I’ve had them listed at $1400 with tires and gotten a few bites, but alas no one has picked them up – if you’re interested contact me and I’ll give you a good price, especially if you’re local. This is the longest I’ve kept a set of wheels – over four years and spanning over two cars – but even after all of this time they look really damn good. The CH is just a perfect design for the B7 body style, and something tells me that I’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Other than the wheel changes, the car hasn’t changed much aesthetically – I love the mostly OEM look with the aggressive hood and DTM rear bumper to let you know it’s just a little meaner than stock. I did add some Relak/DTH side skirts which are really subtle but tie together the black accents well, especially with the front Kerscher lip. I don’t really plan to change anything to the exterior other than wheels for now, although eventually I may turn my attention to the interior and have the seats redone and do something custom with the door cards too, but for now, I’m happy with where the car is at and that is a nice feeling.

It’s amazing what a good photographer can do to highlight the design of a car. You can see how the various lines of the car flow together, from the doors to the rear bumper and the side blades.

There is a good contrast in the photos as well, as David knows what he is doing. In the background you can see Coronado Island where there is a Navy base as well as some of the best beaches in the world.
