Audi Certificate of Production for my TTRS

Someone in the Audi TTRS Owners Group on Facebook discovered that if you write an email to Audi USA customer relations, they will provide you an official certificate of production for your vehicle indicating when it was produced and what production number it was. I tried it out and sure enough they came through, indicating my TTRS is #216 out of 421 produced as a 2012 model year in the USA.  It is printed on a nice glossy paper and includes a handwritten date and signature, which is a really cool touch, and shipped for free to your house. Ownership has its perks!

To get yours, contact Audi USA customer service on their website here. Provide your VIN, and ask for a Certificate of Production and also give them your contact information and shipping address. They’ll get back to you in a few days over email to confirm they have everything correct. I asked my Customer Service Representative if this was something only for the TTRS or if other models or available for any Audi, and here is what they said:

In regards to getting these certificates for other RS models, it is certainly possible that we can do it for vehicle’s other than the TT RS.  Ideally, this works best for models which have only one ‘model code’.  For example, if we have an RS model which offers both a manual and automatic transmission, we would only be able to provide the production data for the specific model code (specific transmission).  So with the TT RS, the ‘overall number’ you get (ex. 100 out of 500) is the total number of these vehicles built for that model year.  However, if we use a vehicle that has two model codes, we would only be able to tell you the total number of vehicles built with that transmission specifically.  Fortunately, most of our RS models in the past only offered one transmission option, so it shouldn’t be an issue.  I hope this information makes sense!

If anyone tries this out for a vehicle other than the TTRS and is successful, let me know! It obviously makes most sense for rare cars, and since the TTRS had such a limited production run it is a good fit. Likewise my understanding is that these are only produced for US owners at this time. The certificate did not come with the frame pictured, but you can pick one up for pretty cheap to hang in your garage and protect from the elements, such as this one on Amazon:

On a related note, I now know what number I’ll choose for my cars on track days: #216 of course! The production number could also be a cool idea for a vanity plate, although I’ll probably just keep with the random numbers/characters the DMV assigned to me for now.

  1. Cool find, and good idea to frame it. Obviously it is more fun to own a rare car. If I asked them, it would be “Your S5 was #1,264 out of 10,035″….which is not as cool a deal.

  2. I guess they are no longer doing this….below is a message from Audi.

I reached out to my internal resources and I regret to inform you that we are no longer fulfilling request for production certificates. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

  3. I made a request last November for a production certificate for my 2012 TTRS. They said they are not making them at this time but were able to share that my car was #187 of 421 for 2012. It was also 1 of 32 in Daytona Gray.

I wish I jumped on this sooner. :/

  4. I have a 2013 Suzuka Gray TTRS. i think its 1 of about 200 or so but not sure. Only have about 24k miles. 🙂

  5. Audi CSR: “I certainly can send that to you via email. I just need full VIN, phone number, and good email address.”

7/24/2023 it appears they’re still doing it- electronically though 🙂
